Actually, I love this film version of Little Dorrit. Full of atmosphere and star-studded with an exceptional cast, it effectively tells the same story (a slightly edited version of the Little Dorrit plot) from two perspectives - Arthur Clennam's own version (in Film 1) and Little Dorrit's version in the second.

The images should not contain any sexually explicit content, race hatred material or other offensive symbols or images. When Arthur Clennam returns to England after many years abroad, his curiosity is piqued by the presence in his mother's house of a young seamstress, Amy Dorrit. Every look, every gesture was so amazing. While hoping to pay off Amy's brother's debt and give him the chance to start again, Arthur himself is also planning to start again with a new job, and perhaps renew his love for childhood sweetheart Flora Casby.

Written by the renowned Andrew Davies it brings together a brilliant cast many of whom you will have seen in a host of dramas and films. An absolute Dickens-fest of unrequited love, double dealing and fortunes won and lost. Arrived promptly and not overly packaged. First published between 1855 and 1857 Little Dorritt tells a series of intertwining stories based around a group of characters largely based in Marshlea Debtors Prison.

The gotcha is the PAL encoding (instead of NTSC). The positives far outweigh the negatives though and I would encourage any Dickens fan to get hold of a copy of this DVD.

Mr. Merdle's death sends shockwaves through London, as thousands of people who invested in him now face financial ruin.
Andy Serkis is positively vile as the French wife-murderer who has a mysterious hold over Arthur's cold, heartless 'mother' and the weirdly wry-necked Jeremiah Flintwinch played by Alun Armstrong. Mr Dorrit is released from the Marshalsea after more than twenty years, and takes his family abroad to reinvent themselves as members of society.

A woman struggles with her self-image in a house run by a weight-obsessed mother, alongside a younger sister whose eating disorder has tragic coincidences. His characters are rich and complex and his stories are full of the color of the times he lived in.

I'm not a big media or tv fan, and if I had not read the book, would not have ordered this. Beyond OUTSTANDING!!! Money wasted that I didn't have to waste. Trailer. Mr. Dorrit meanwhile quickly settles into the London highlife, but faces constant reminders of his shameful past. It played okay on my Mac, which apparently understands PAL, but is still set up for region 1.

What I particularly like is how drawn out the plot is into 14 episodes instead of rushing it. The story revolves around the characters of the Dorritt family, including Any Dorritt, played by Clare Foy who has spent her entire life living in the prison because her father cannot clear his debts. Pancks concludes his investigation into the Dorrit family's long incarceration in the Marshalsea Debtors' Prison, and Arthur and Amy break momentous news to Mr Dorrit. The 14 episodes of Little Dorritt first aired in the U.K. in 2008 and later appeared as part of PBS Masterpiece series in the U.S. in 2009.

Like many of the novels of Charles Dickens Little Dorritt was first published in a serialized form in magazines; reflecting the original format writer Andrew Davies produced a script in 14 parts with two 60 minute specials and 12 30 minute episodes. Little Dorrit is less well known as opposed to Pride and Prejudice, this adaptation makes up for that. This is a particularly good production. Fanny worries about the burgeoning affection between Mr. Dorrit and Mrs. General. Rigaud introduces himself to the House of Clennam, while Arthur is best man at Pet's marriage to Henry Gowan.
