Dauntless' bland, sterile environments don’t do the game any favors. The game features a number of modest graphical options. Ramsgate is in desperate need of an area where players can learn a new weapon at their own pace, and I feel that this is going to be crucial to Dauntless’ ability to attract and retain new players in the long run. These aren’t required though and just make things easier as you earn more currency and resources. There were also occasional brief pauses where the game slightly lagged. Those playing Dauntless on PC need a rig containing at least an Intel Core i5-2400 CPU, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti GPU, 4GB of RAM, 15GB of storage space, and the Windows 7 operating system. Right now, though, it’s a transparently barebones experience with some fun combat layered on. This includes killing a certain number of behemoths, breaking specific behemoth parts, and forging armor sets.

The Elite track unlocks new materials, including new gear and armor dyes, as you level up. Like Monster Hunter World, Dauntless tasks you with killing large monsters (called Behemoths) in order to forge better weapons and armor to take on even more powerful beasts. The game gives you some pretty good tutorials through the opening quests to get you started.

Dauntless has an eye-pleasing, stylized look similar to Fortnite that won't melt your gaming rig's graphics card. Pursuits will let you go after specific behemoths and will be the basis for a good amount of quests you pick up, tasking you to defeat a certain behemoth. However, the Switch version’s main issue is the frame rate droppage. Speaking of which, the second catch is that sometimes the behemoth will run off and you have to hunt it down again. Since the majority of these items are cosmetic, they aren’t necessary. As you take them down you’ll collect loot to craft and upgrade your weapons and armor to begin taking down larger and more powerful Behemoths. You can go it alone if you wish, but I actually prefer to have other people join in. Between hunts you go back to the city to turn in quests, pick up new ones, and craft and upgrade weapons and armor. The actual hunting of behemoths is also a lot of fun.
