Childhood influences include black blues-men in the neighborhood and country music radio programs enjoyed by his family. Elvis also signed a seven-year movie contract. Elvis’ parents cannot afford a bicycle that Elvis wants, so Gladys talks him into accepting a guitar instead.
A southern boy raised by two hardworking parents, Vernon and Gladys Presley. On August 9, an emergency call was made to transport Gladys Presley from Graceland to Methodist hospital. The unemployment rate in the United States in 1935 was 20.1 percent. Elvis was married to actress and businessperson Priscilla Presley, with whom he is the father of singer Lisa Marie Presley and the grandfather of model/actress Riley Keough. Once Vernon returned and the family settled down, the couple doted on their son. They nurtured his talent and taught him to believe in himself.
